This is a tribute to Swedish artist John Bauer, who illustrated Nordic folk mythology in the beginning of the 20th century. The old troll has abducted the princess and keeps her in his mountain hall. While the troll is out stealing cows from farmers the boy comes to her rescue, but just as they sneak out through the door, the troll comes back...
Knowing the story in your artist's comments and seeing the painting, I feel scared for the two of them. To me in my eyes, you've visually created an event in these two character's "lives" that I somehow connect with. You're a great illustrator!
-- 'Anybody can sympathise with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathise with a friend's success'
Amazing work. Excellent artist's comment also, they really help one understand the piece.
